Khajuraho Temple Tour

Khajuraho TempleKhajuraho Temples Tours will take you on a journey to the most well known temples of India-the Khajuraho Group of Temples. these are located in the Bundelkhand region in Madhya Pradesh. The temples represent the zenith of the north Indian style of temple architecture. Along with being famous for their fully evolved architectural styles, the Khajuraho temples are also known for the series of erotic sculptures and carvings on the temples. The Chandela kings built the Khajuraho group of temples from the 950 AD to 1050 AD. The Khajuraho Temples are listed in the UNESCO's World Heritage Site.

Khajuraho gradually lost its position of significance and by the 16th century AD was rather a small village. Thick jungles of khajur or date trees surrounded the temples, which eventually gave the place its name. A British engineer, T.B. Burt, who visited the site in 1838 AD, discovered the temples. Of the original 85 temples only 22 are left today. The temples are conspicuously famous for the erotic art on the walls of the temple even though these carvings represent only about 10% of the total ornamentations.

The Khajuraho Temples are broadly categorized into 3 groups, namely, Western, Eastern and Southern Groups.

The Western Group of Temples

Khajuraho Temple Tour takes you to the Western Group of Temples, which includes the Kandariya Mahadeva, Jagadambika Temple, Chitragupta Temple and Lakshmana Temple. These temples are the finest examples of the sculptural art on the temples of India.

The Eastern Group of Temples

Khajuraho Temple Tour takes you to the Eastern Group of Temples situated near the Khajuraho village. This group comprises of the Brahma Temple, Vamana Temple and Javari Temple located near the Khajuraho Sagar. Jain shrines like the Ghantai Temple, Adinath Temple and Parsvanath Temple are included in this group.

The Southern Group of Temples

Khajuraho Temple Tour takes you to the Southern Group of Temples, which includes the Duladeo Temple and the Chaturbhuja Temple. The Duladeo was built between 1100 AD and 1150A D and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Chaturbhuja Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

Khajuraho Dance Festival

You can also be the part of the Khajuraho Dance Festival while on Khajuraho Temple Tour. Khajuraho Dance Festival is celebrated every year in the month of March for a period of 7 days. Khajuraho Dance Festival is a cultural event where dance performances take place on pleasing rhythms of music.
